Noxious Toyz ***New Interview***

The Noxious Toyz are a great band from the UK. They have an awesome EP out and always put on a great live show. Hailing from Essex the band has been blowing up stages all over England. I got Stief to tell their story...

Introduce yourself…
I'm Stief (Lead Singer) and ''We are the Toyz - The ultimate noise''..

How did the band start?
The Band was formed from the ashes of two other bands, The Obscene Toys and The Pharaohs.. Tho The Pharaohs are still very much playing, Glenn from The Pharaohs is still full time guitarist in The Noxious Toyz and now classes the position as one of the best things he's done... Initially, Me and Glenn were just going to write some songs as a one-off project, but as the band took off, we decided to make the band a full time project...

How did you come up with the name?
The Noxious Toyz was chosen for two reasons, Firstly i kind of wanted a direct decendant from The Obscene Toyz, but wanted to make it a much better and bigger, proffesional compliment to what i'd done previously.. And also, over the years i've had many comments on my clockwork toy-like movements on stage, so keeping that in mind along with the dark over-tones of the songs, The Noxious Toyz it had to be...

Who would you say are your influences?
As far as the style and sound of the band are concerned, I will always proudly claimed that The Cramps, The Banshees and The Upstarts are what make the bulk of our influence. Tho there is also a hint of Killing Joke and The Buzzcocks in there too so i've been told LOL..

What is the punk scene like in Essex?
As far as i'm aware, there's quite a healthy Punk Scene in Essex... Most places that i know of in Essex do cater for Punks, Skins and Psychobilly's as a collective, Which i find a healthy mix as i've always believed in bringing people together through what we do... That is also why we have a good mix of people at our gigs...

What is the song writing process?
We don't have a specific process.. I tend to write songs depending on how i feel at the time... All the songs tho, do come from experience..
An example would be the song ''Oh Crumbs'' which i wrote after a weekend out in Newcastle, and when i got home on the monday morning i realised that my goldfish 'Fluffykins' was dead, and i wrote a song based around that.... I also threw a football chant in to twist it a little bit more too...
I like to make the songs intresting and double-barrelled so that anyone listening to them will think about what i'm singing about and will be left making their own mind up as to what they think it's all about...

In 2010, you released your first album ‘Cocaine’, tell us about the album…
The 'Cocaine' EP is basically just a self-financed 6 track CD that we had to get together for people at the gigs as we were turning up at venues as the only band without any merchandise, which was getting a bit embarresing. So we took what we thought was our strongest songs at the time and got them recorded..
The 'Cocaine' song itself has since gone on to become a bit of a cult anthem, which is great, and i've certainly no objections to it LOL

Tell us about the lineup…
The Noxious Toyz are....
Stief A Billy-Vocals (Previous Bands The Obscene Toyz, Also previously a DJ throughout the 90's)
Glenn Daeche-Guitars (Also Lead singer with Neo-Rockabilly band The Pharaohs)
Kurt Mitchell-Drums (No Previous bands)
Danny Clark-Double Bass (Previous Bands The Go-Katz, The Hangmen)

Who are some of the bands you have done shows with?
We've done a few shows now with quiet a few good bands. We've also been on quiet a few Punk/Psychobilly festival bills which is always a good laugh.

Do you prefer to do shows at large venues or small clubs?
To be honest, Both.. We love the big venues with the big PA set up as we are definitly a live-band and have a big loud sound. But at the same time, I personally love playing small venues and pubs as it's more personal and it feels great to be on the same footing as the people who come to see you...
Have you toured?
Yes.. Two tours last year which included the UK, Germany, Belgium and Finland. We also have a UK and Ireland Tour in the making for this year which will kick of at the end of March and will go through to the end of June... European dates will be added later in the year...

Is there a favorite band you like to do shows with?
The UK Subs, Cos Charlie loves us LOL. And i'll also be adding The Angelic Upstarts to that list as Mensi is also quiet smitten with us LOL.. (He won't mind me saying that by the way LOL)

Is there a favorite place you like to do shows at?
All our shows are an adventure and an experience and usually end up quite memorable for one reason or another LOL..

What do you see is the future of Noxious Toyz?
We are about to record our new 12 track CD which we will be recording for Raucous Records, The CD should be out by April/May this year.
We also have the tour coming up and hope to keep the gigs and recordings coming.. Our continueous aim is to bring our music and our insanity to the good people who love a good band and a good fun night out for as long as we can...
