Egos at the Door are another great band that the is bursting out of the UK punk scene. As a band they have a lot of great shows and have released a great EP which they sell at all their shows. I got ED to tell their story...
Introduce yourself…
Hey, It's Ed from Egos At The Door. Thanks for having me!
How did the band start?
I guess just from us all being good friends and musicians really. I wish we had an interesting story, like... we all met at a Black Flag show... Or something really cool.
How did you come up with the name?
Just kinda sick of what a lot of people stand for in the scene and how they act. Self important 80's punks who can't listen to anything new in case it over loads their small minds, status punks... Not to type cast our music into any scene or anything...
Who would you say are your influences?
That's a really tough one, we're all raving over a new band every week which is always going to transfer over in some way or another.
At the MOMENT we are tanning a lot of Folly, La Dispute, Such Gold, Snowing, Arusha Accord, uuhhh and loads of others I can't remember... But that's just this week.
What was the punk scene like in UK?
You speak as if it isn't there any more? "Oh man we used to have a scene, the kids used to care, it used to be REAL man"... It's ace you just have to work hard to meet the right people.
What is the song writing process?
Input, shouting, swearing, democracy, compromise, insulting, making up, finishing, forgetting...
You have released a five song EP, tell us about the EP...
It's just the first collection of songs we wrote - a 6 track little online dealio which isn't available to purchase online but we have copies at shows! We are printing up some cases. We also have a single coming out really soon (It's supposed to be 27th June - we'll see!). We are kinda happy with the EP, but resent the 'fresh band' sound it breathes and those songs aren't very accurate to what we are writing right now. Now I have sold it to you... If you want a physical copy hit us up! Or just hear it all for free at www.egosatthedoor.bandcamp.com.
Have you guys released anything else?
We did a really shitty 3 track live demo after our third practice together - just to get something up in hope people might book us. It kinda worked!
Who are some of the bands you have done shows with?
Still Bust, Great Cynics, Crazy Arm, Chief, Beat The Red Light, Eat Defeat, Fighting Fiction, Revenge of The Pyschotronic Man, Sounds Of Swami, Stand Out Riot, T-Alan, The Computers, The Junk... Lots more, all these bands are so talented. We love being in a scene where you don't need fame/hype to get the opportunity to play with some really exceptional bands, it's a real privilege.
Do you prefer to do shows at large venues or small clubs?
Small Clubs, every night. Large venues are fun and sound great but the energy is never the same....
Where have you toured?
The UK and we are going mainland EU end of August... Get back to us next year about this haha
Is there a favorite band you like to do shows with?
Not really, of course we love a lot of bands and their music but it's more about how nice the people are - any social outgoing bunches of people who are down for a good time then meet up with us for a show!
Is there a favorite place you like to do shows at?
Not going to lie, Norwich rocks it! And Hastings, Brighton... Our local shows are fun... Now I feel a dick in case I missed somewhere we love.
What do you see is the future of Egos at the Door?
Record, Release, Tour x as many times as possible. We are writing an album which we are pretty happy with, can't wait until it is done!
How can people contact the band?
egosatthedooruk@gmail.com or facebook! And please do, we'd love to hear from you!
