Frontkick ***New Interview***

Blasting out of Berlin. Frontkick have 12 years of great shows and recordings to give anyone a kung fu kick in the ear. As a band, they have been all over the Balkins and are working their way to the west. If you have not heard any of their stuff go to their myspace page and check 'em out. I got Marti to tell their story...

Introduce yourself…
Hello I am Marti Neurotic and I am singer and guitar player in Frontkick.
The rest of the band is Crash Distressed on guitar, Jeremy Late on bass and Quentin Dufay as our last addition on drums.

How did the band start?
Started in 1999/2000 when I moved to Berlin from Spain, me and a friend had recently broken up with our old band
and we were going to see many shows in Berlin... So, it kinda gave us the motivation to carry on with the music which has been my fuel since I can remember.

How did you come up with the name?
Actually I loved (and I still do) the song Sidekick from Rancid... And I thought that it had potential as a name... What happened is that there was a HC band from germany at the time called sidekick.
As our music was tougher at that time I thought that a "frontkick" was what I wanted to express, a kick right to everybodies face, and still...it was not so far from sidekick.

Who would you say are your influences?
There are infinite influences.... Not only musically but also in movies, art, life itself is the biggest influence in one's music.
Musically I always admired the Clash, the Jam, SLF, and more modern bands like One Man Army, Rancid, Riverboat Gamblers + sing a song writers like Billy Bragg or Nick Lowe.

What is the punk scene like in Germany?
There is a lot going on!!! Mostly in Berlin or Hamburg!!! Many bands, lots of shows! Can't complain!

Describe the song writing process...
Mostly I come up with an idea and then we give it shape all together in the rehearsal room, we have a pretty new line up right now.
So we haven't written many songs together... We are starting now with the new stuff, almost from the scratch.

Your Current release is 'The Cause of the Rebel', tell us about the album...
It is a record that I am very happy with cause we knew what we wanted and how we wanted it and we were really close to achieve it, it is my favorite frontkick record, although I think I will never be 100% satisfied with any record, cause then I would lose my purpose, to get better and work harder next time.
I think that the cause of the rebel is gonna be a hard one to top but we will give it our best shot!!!!

What else have you released?
appart from 'the Cause of the Rebel we have 2 more LP's: 'Guitars and Crime" and 'Underground Stories' and some 7"s, 2 splits...1 with radio dead ones and 1 with voice of a generation + the latest one called "the New Beginning" on Wanda records, and the very first one... Berlin rejects (but I don't count it as a FK 7").

Who are some of the bands you have done shows with?
hmmmm, the Distillers, Pennywise, Bouncing Souls, Lagwagon, Mad Caddies, the Loved Ones...and many befriended bands like 2nd District, Radio Dead Ones, Shock Nagasaki, One Man Army, Smalltown.
It's almost 12 years so you can imagine the list is very big.

Do you prefer to do shows at large venues or small clubs?
It depends on how full the venue is!!! I really enjoy the sound and the stage from a big venue but sometimes it's a bit colder when you're playing a support slot and everybody is waiting for the main act, anyways.... I really love small clubs as well... Is easier for things to get out of control which makes it funnier, still, I don't prefer this or the other.

Where have you toured?
Germany, Belgium, Holland, Czecz Republic, Austria, France, Italy, Spain... Central and South Europe... We'd love to go to other countries as we've never been to the UK or Scandinavia.

Is there a favorite band you like to do shows with?
I wish we could go with One Man Army on tour again! But anyway any of our friend's bands are always great to tour with!

Is there a favorite place you like to do shows at?
I enjoyed club Vaudeville in Lindau... Great club, great sound or at Clash in Berlin which is like family to us and their food rocks!!!

Do you see is the future of Frontkick?
To be sincere, I have no damn idea what awaits us! ;)

How can people contact the band?
