Rockin' out of Corona, CA. The slow children have a punk presence that reminds me a lot of the early 7 Seconds years. They also have a great live stage presence. The band has released one self-titled full-length record and two self-titled EPs. I got mike to tell their story...
Introduce Yourself...
Well, I'm Mike I play guitar for the band slow children out of Corona, California.
How did the band start?
We started back in 2004 as friends just going to shows at the local venue at the time called showcase theater! We started playing three chord punk rock in our singer's garage an his dad would let us throw garage shows all the time, and from there it kept getting us pumped to keep going and never giving up.
How did you come up with the name?
Our singer and drummer's uncle wrote them a letter while he was in prison and told knew his nephews were starting a band and told 'em Slow Children, maybe since cuz we were between the ages of 12-14.
Who are your influences?
Leftover Crack, Lagwagon, Dead Kennedys, Christan Death, Rich kids on LSD, Agnostic Front an more!
What is the punk scene like in California?
Southern California.. In places such as orange county and L.A. have all the big shows, but little cities such as Hemet and Lake Elisonre and Corona where we came out of had the Showcase theater and that's where you can see every good punk band known to man there!
Tell us about the song writing process...
Well usually we get together when someone has a riff and we usually jam it out then when our singer shows up usually lays down vocals.
What have you released?
We have a full length that we released last year along with a EP that we are gonna leave out of print and we just released our new EP!
Tell us about the full length...
Well it contains some friends that helped us keep the band going threw rough times an helped us tour and keep jamming and that's something we are gonna keep out of print cuz it was a different time for us. This new EP is back to our original drummer Justus Profit which is our singer's little brother.
What was the title of the full length?
Self-titled
Tell us more about the new EP...
Well the first 3 songs is pretty much what is going on in our life in the last year and whatnot so these songs really mean a lot to us.
What is the EP called?
Another self-titled EP, no real name just Slow Children EP.
Where have you toured?
We have toured the West 3 times (Western US). We have played such states as Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
Who are some of the bands you have played shows with?
Leftover Crack, DRI, Death by Stereo, Funeral Dress (Belguim), UK Subs, The Vibrators , Authority Zero....
Is there a favorite?
Funeral dress cuz it was in our hometown an was probably one of the best shows this band has played... And the Leftover Crack show cuz a lot of our friends helped us out with that show.
Tell us about the lineup...
Slow Children is N8 Profit vocals
Mike Cantrell guitar
