Introduce yourself…
Hello everybody! We are Colin Farrell from Milano (Italy) and we play punkrock. I’m Mob and I play my mouth, Lollo is the bass player and he plays his backing mouth too, Edo is our schizoid guitar player and he is the cutie of the band, Zano is our 17 years old drummer, the youngest member, but he fucks more than all of us.
How did the band start?
We started playing together one year ago. We all knew each other because of our other bands (that now are all dead). I asked Edo if he wanted to start something with me and he said “Yes”. Too much easy. Then he has realized that I meant to start a band and not a love story with him. He has agreed anyway.
How did you come up with the name?
I was doing some fake skateboarding with edo (ok, we were staring at girls that were skateboarding) and he came up with the name. He has found Colin Farrell on the front cover of an Italian fashion magazine. In the interview Colin was saying that he had quit doing drugs and he had married a straight A’s girl. It was very funny and we decided to call ourself like him. The other option was Elisabetta Canalis (maybe you know her for being the ex girlfriend of George Clooney).
Who would you say are your influences?
Well, Ramones first of all even though we don’t sound like them. But we don’t mind at all because it’s impossible to sound like God. Othe influences are the early Queers, Angry Samoans and some cool Italian punkrock bands from the 90’s like the Shits, Gambe di Burro (wich means Butter Legs) and Semprefreski (wich means Always Fresh, this guys were so fucking cool, believe me).
What is the punk scene like in Italy?
It’s cool because we all pass the time trying to act badly with each other. So we are always very busy and we never get bored. I mean, we play the “your band suck, my band is cool” game. Anyway there are a lot of good bands here like the famous Manges and Peawees and the less famous Bumpkins, Likely Lads, Teenage Gluesniffers, Teenage Creepers, Super White Garlic, Leeches, Proton Packs, Photogenics, Morbeats, Sensibles and so on. We only need a little more people at the shows, this is the first Italian punk scene problem.
Describe the song writing process...
Some of us comes up with a guitar riff or some words and we start playing. After 1 minute the song is done. Our songs are very short and easy so we don’t waste too much time trying to write them in a better and complicated way. But we spend a little more time for the backing vocals part, they are very important if you wanna do very good punkrock songs.
What have you released?
We have released an 11 songs CD for 11 minutes of music. It’s called “Are not serious” and it’s totally D.I.Y., an EP of 4 songs for 4 minutes of music called “Danger Zone” and a song for an American compilation “Where the fun never sets vol3” for Cabana 1 rec.
Who are some of the bands you have done shows with?
We have played with the Bumpkins, punkrock from Milano. Likely Lads and Radio Days, power pop from Milano. Teenage Gluesniffers and Teenage Creepers that are our old friend of the early days in the scene and many more. In a year we have done 20 shows, that’s good for a band like us. We have also played with the Secretions from Sacramento. Very good band and very good guys. And with 20Belows from Copenhagen.
Have you toured?
Not yet. Hope to do it very soon. It would be funny because we always (and I mean always) play 10 songs in 10 minutes. It’s funny to think of us playing only ten minutes, get into the van, drive for hundred miles, play 10 minutes again, get into the van…and so on.
Is there a favorite band you like to do shows with?
In America we’d like to be the backing band for the Beldings. We all would like to play with the Dwarves except for Lollo, he only wants to play with Ben Weasel and get punched in the nose by him. Lollo only listen to the Ramones, Screeching Weasel and Johnny Thunders. Anyway he is a good guy, he was one of the greatest Ramones bootleggers in the world, believe me. Now he became old and lazy (and bald).
Is there a favorite place you like to do shows at?
We have played at the Taun in Fidenza and we fell in love with it. It’s small and hot and with a lot of good people around (Edo, the guitar player, fucked a girl with the only help of his eyes down there…true story). We like very small club. The Rocket is another cool and small club in Milano. It’s full of hipsters but most of them are funny and interested in what we do and there are a lot of nice girls down there.
Do you see is the future of Colin Farrell?
Keep playing around 10 minutes shows.
Put out a new CD or a 7”.
Meet new girls for Edo and his eyes.
Find a wig for Lollo.
Find some denim jeans for Zano.
Keep talking bad about the other bands.
And I’ll try to sing in a better way.
