Cordial Spew are an awesome band out of Nebraska. They have a few demos out and are currently completing a full length cd. The band likes to have fun on stage and put on a great show. They have played several great shows and have future plans of a tour. I got Jay to trll their story...
Introduce yourself…
Jay Bacon vocals for Cordial Spew. The rest of the band is Kevin Mclay- Guitar Doug Decker- Drums Jason Rice- Bass and Jeff Decker- guitar
How did the band start?
Kevin Mclay and Jack Hawk were at a Big Boy pancake house in the year 1985 after an AA meeting.. we went to Jacks garage and I screamed into a ghetto blaster for our first recordings.. met Conrad Hinz and Bryan Gumm a couple weeks later through friends. We practiced and wrote songs for 8 months before we were asked to play a show called "The Freeze Benefit" Nuclear war was big in the news back then... And Ronnie Reagan had us all a little nervous.. 400+ people at that show was a real rush for me..
How did you come up with the name?
We had a friend that helped us with that.. I forgot his name but The dictionary meaning locked it down..(Cordial) Meaningfully from the heart...(Spew) to expel forcefully or vomit... And of course we picked some stupid names back then too..
Who would you say are your influences?
We were into MDC, Flag, Conflict, Threat, Sabbath, DRI, Bad Brains and many others then.. We played as hard and fast as we were able..the energy from the pit is all we need..
What is the punk scene like in Nebraska?
Keep in mind we have been lucky enough to experience 2 different scenes in the same town in two separate decades..We played from 85 to 87 then took a 22 year break.and reunited in late 2007 with all original members for a 8 band punk reunion show.. 400 plus at that one too.. I nearly passed out from fear..Back in the 80's our friends were great and we were a tight bunch of kids.. But the new kids we play to are the reason we even still play.. We love them and they fucking go off when we play our style of Thrash/hardcore.. We have been called "authentic"among other things.. Mostly because we play the songs that were written 26 years ago.. but with better musicianship than we had then.. We were a lot thinner then though.. cant quite figure that shit out??
Describe the song writing process...
Write about the things that concern you.. or that you wish to speak out about.. or something completely for comedy and entertainment..
What have you released?
We have several demos is all.. our new CD is in the studio now getting work.."Doug's Basement" and it will have most of our material on it.. No label.. We have been on some compilations around the world though. Google us if you want..
Who are some of the bands you have done shows with?
Wow!! many bands.. But Here are a few.. NOFX"stayed at our place in 86 and recorded at top secret demo locally I may leak at a later date... DRI, MDC,SNFU, BGK,Agnostic Front,TSOL,Toxic Reasons,Descendents, Agent Orange,Verbal Assault Beyond Possession,Ludichrist, Star Fucking Hipsters, and many others.. I really dig playing with the locals here too.. Eastern Turkish Living Victim, Bad Luck Charm, But the touring bands we gigged with in the 40 plus shows we have played since reuniting has been one of the coolest things yet. way too many out there!! Thanks to you all!!!
Have you toured?
We have toured to the surrounding states then and now.. We have also been approached about bigger tours but we are all old fucks with real jobs and families to support.. Not saying we never will.. but we are also talking about playing the Rebellion fest in the UK..
Is there a favorite band you like to do shows with?
Eastern Turkish and The Shidiots are my personal fave locals to play with.. but there are a bunch of others I dig too
Do you prefer small clubs or large venues?
Like the crowded basement shows and house stuff but we mostly play smaller and mid sized venues..
Is there a favorite place you like to do shows at?
WE Love playing "The Hole" here in Omaha and support it to keep all ages shows alive..
What do you see is the future of Cordial Spew?
Who knows what the future holds man.. If we wanted to be popular we would write that same old shit the record companies are looking for.. We play for them Badasses that come to see us, and we play our asses off for them only..
How can people contact the band?
