Damn Broads are well as you would have guessed, all female. They are a great band from COnnecticut and they put on a DAMN fine show. They have some big names that they have done shows with, but at this point are still trying to get their stuff recorded (hint, hint). They have traveled around the East Coast, but no official tour. I got the band to tell their story...
How did the band start?
Craigslist. Taylor and Ines posted an ad looking for a bassist and singer for an all female punk band. Sisters Riley and Michelle responded to the ad and were interested in trying out. Despite Michelle’s hate for girl bands, she decided to come and thought “hey, its ok.”
How did you come up with the name?
We are broads….we are Damn Broads! And we add the exclamation point because we are loud damnit…yes…damn loud broads! By the way we realize we didn’t answer the question but we don’t actually know.
Who would you say are your influences?
We aren’t all influenced by the same bands. We have been told that we sound like The Pist and Vomit Punx and we definitely support whoever says that because we think that is awesome! As for what we are influenced by is alcohol, diners, kittens, fireworks and pokemon snap.
What is the punk scene like in Connecticut?
Out of all the places we have played out of state, we have to say we love home. Connecticut is the hardest. Punks here really care about scene. They are dedicated and will be there when you need them. We love the CT punk bands, they are our friends, when we have heavy amps to carry, they carry them for us because they are strong...and we are not…oh well. But seriously, the CT punk scene is amazing and it is our home and we appreciate the love everyone has for the scene.
Describe the song writing process...
All of us write individually. One of us will come up with a song idea and email it to the rest of the girls. Then at the next practice KABAM! We have a song.
What have you released?
We are currently in the process of trying to find some pour soul who would be willing to record us for free and listen to us for an extended period of time. We want to release a full length CD in the next months. As for now, we have two six song demos, The Damn Demo and Politics and Lady Parts
Who are some of the bands you have done shows with?
We have played with The Casualties, The Misfits, Murphy’s Law, Juicehead, Reagan Youth, USA Waste, M-13, Midnight Saints, More Beer Please and so many more!
Have you toured?
If you mean tour, you mean gotten on a train? Yes we have traveled to a show on a train but no we have not officially toured yet but we have done many shows in a row, we have played CT, NY, MA and VT. But not all in a row, because that would be a tour right? Ok ok…..we’re a little drunk…but officially toured yet…no.
Do you prefer small clubs or large venues?
Small clubs for sure! The sound is definitely better in smaller venues, and they are usually more packed than larger venues. People are forced to stand up front. They have no choice. There is more energy in small venues, and it takes less time to clear out once they hear us.
Is there a favorite band you like to do shows with?
There are a lot of bands we love to play with, but we can not choose just one, so we will choose four. Cry Havoc!, Stressbomb, M-13 and The Provokers.
Is there a favorite place you like to do shows at?
Most of the shows we play are in New London CT at the El N Gee. That is definitely one of our favorites. Also Snapper Magees in Torrington CT, Valentines in Albany NY and The Whitney House in Hartford CT.
What do you see is the future of Damn Broads?
Explosives. And hopefully no more jail time or hospital visits. We plan to release a cd as soon as possible, go on tour, and keep playing as many shows as we possibly can.
How can people contact the band?
Pretty much just through facebook www.facebook.com/damnbroads . And for those who want to send us love letters and hate mail you can contact us at damnbroads@gmail.com

The Damn Broads are a solid fucking band, says Albany.
