IDFK ***New Interview***

IDFK are a great band from Wisconsin. They have appeared on a few comps and done some great basement shows. They have around for about 3 years and have a great stage show. I got Aaron to tell their story...

Introduce yourself…
I'm Aaron Anorexic, lead guitar, main song writer, and lady killer. Also, I'm the only original member of the band left.

How did the band start?
It was a cold, snowy night in late 2008. There were 3 of us who had recently left bands we were in prior to IDFK. We started jamming and it turned into a band. Opy became our drummer a few months later.

How did you come up with the name?
First off I hate our name. We came up with 3 names and thought about it for a week and asked friends and IDFK won because we thought we'd have fun coming up with different ideas for what IDFK could stand for. That got old quick. We keep the name though because we like our question mark logo.

Who would you say are your influences?
We like to joke and say we rip-off Ramones rip-offs. There's definitely a Screeching Weasel/Queers vibe to us and that's kinda what we aim for. We take what we like about pop/punk and put our own spin on it. Opy Inappropriate is old and listens to a lot of old school punk. That definitely comes out in our music we've been told.

What is the punk scene like in the Wisconsin?
In our area of the state it seems like most everyone who's into the punk scene plays in a band so we always just end up playing in front of the other bands.

Describe the song writing process...
It usually starts with a good idea for a song or a melody for something and we just go from there until we have a 2 minute song. It's usually about something that pisses us off.

What have you released?
We've been on 4 comps where we usually have the most shitty sounding songs, most recently a free downloadable one from Knowhere Records. We were pretty stoked about that one. We're gonna be recording our first full length later this summer and hopefully it'll be done by the end of the year. Another full length will be coming out the year after that seeing as we have enough material for 2 full length albums right now.

Who are some of the bands you have done shows with?
Voice of Addiction, Number 9 Hard, Common Kids, The Unemployed Stormtroopers, The Transgressions, Blitzkrieg Rok

Have you toured?
Nope.

Do you prefer small clubs or large venues?
The last time we played Madison Square Garden things just got out of hand. We'll just stick to basement shows for now on, we love them.

Is there a favorite band you like to do shows with?
Any that will get us a show since we're too lazy to book our own.

Is there a favorite place you like to do shows at?
This basement in Stevens Point was pretty cool, it doesn't have a name. I suggested he name it "Logan's Lair" but he didn't like it. I thought it had a good ring to it, yes?
My basement which we call The Nuthouse is always a good time for the 14 people that show up.
The Charles Mansion, surprisingly the only basement venue in Green Bay, is cool too.
There is a basement venue in Oshkosh but we aren't allowed to play there anymore so I won't mention them.

What do you see is the future of IDFK?
We're just gonna keep keepin' on.
