The Mustard Men are a great band for Joliet, IL. They play a good show live and have a great album out. They have been around for about 2 years and appear to looking to get some bigger shows and more exposure in the Mid-West. They have gotten their feet wet on a lot of local shows. I got the band to tell their story...
Introduce the band…
The Mustard Men are...
Danny Behrens - Drums/Vocals
Scott Wolz - Guitar/Vocals
Matt LaMantia - Guitar/Vocals
Dan LaMantia - Bass/Vocals
How did the band start?
The Mustard Men originally started as a three piece with Matt LaMantia,Scott Wolz, and Dan LaMantia in February of 2009 and was built on a foundation that all members were responsible for contributing as Composers, Vocalist, and Lyricist in the name of Punk Rock.
After 6 months, a dozen songs made and multiple shows played as a three piece, the Mustard Men took on a fourth member. Danny Behrens joined as the new Drummer while Matt went to Guitar/Vocals.
How did you come up with the name?
Matt blurted it out and we knew it was meant to be. We like it alot. It might have something to do with Chicago pride, but we’re not sure yet.
Who would you say are your influences?
With all members of the Mustard Men being Composers/Vocalist/Lyricist the influences range all over time and space. The Cramps, Big Boys, Gray Matter, MinuteMen, Black Flag, Converge, The Bad Plus, and The Germs to name a few.
What is the punk scene like in Joliet?
Unfortunately we are the punk scene in Joliet. So 4 people....
We have yet to buzz our hometown with Mustardy goodness, probably cause we suck.
But alot of our fans are based in the North Suburbs of the IL, they don’t think we suck...as much. But for seriousness, we have awesome dedicated fans that are true Mustard Men and Women. They make the moshing happen and make us feel better about ourselves.
In 2010, you released a self-titled album, tell us about the album...
The album is 18 Tracks of real Analog Tape Recorded A.D.D. Punk Rock. We spent a majority of 2010 recording on a reel to reel in the basement of our good friend Barrett Gulzaldo of Tree-City Studios. The album is a roller coaster of styles all wrapped in the same attitude. Its Available on Itunes, Interpunk.com, AmazonMp3, CdBaby, Rhapsody, BandCamp, Reckless Records (Milwaukee Ave) in Chicago, Exit Underground in Naperville, IL and many other places. For more info and free downloads visit any of our many social websites.
Who are some of the bands you have done shows with?
We played with 100+ bands, mostly local, but regional and major as well. The Fizzy Pops, The Frantic, and The Creepshow to name a few.
Have you toured?
We have not toured, but would love too. With help from DIY punk rock blogs like “punkrock77thrutoday.blogspot.com”, a good DIY ethic, and a growing fanbase, we hope we can accomplish that feat some day.
Is there a favorite band you like to do shows with?
We like playing with all kinds of bands. We have no favorite, but probably would if there were shows to play/places to play for the local music scenes.
Is there a favorite place you like to do shows at?
Reggie’s Rock Club in Chicago is a favorite of the band. The atmosphere and mood bring it all together to make playing a show a truly epic thing. There, you have a great stage in front of you and a full bar at your back, and the food? Trust us, its amazing. We love it.
Do you see is the future of the Mustardmen?
The future of Mustard Men is New Music Releases and trying to get more shows and tear it up as much as possible in the future. We’ll also have an all new 10 track E.P. out later this year in the FALL.
