Non Konform ***New Interview***

Non Konform is a really great band from France. They have a handful of great releases and have been playing shows in France for quite some time. They actually put on a great show and have a lot of fun doing it. I got the band to tell their story via a translator...

How did the band start?
Eric (guitar) and me (Jérôme / drums) were playing for several months, we were looking for a singer and a bass-player, during a gig we met Pierre (bass) and Dudu (singer), that was an obvious fact !

How did you come up with the name?
Dudu found the name. It “sounds“ punk, that’s what we wanted !

Who would you say are your influences?
Dudu likes mostly french punk-rock, Pierre is more into Anarcho-punk, Eric likes Nirvana, Sum 41, Blink 182 and Exploited, and for me it’s punk/hardcore/psychobilly/hardrock !

What is the punk scene like in France?
With the few places to play and the political divisions, the french scene is dying slowly…

Describe the song writing process...
Eric start to play some guitar-riffs, and we “jam“ on it..

What have you released?
A 4 songs Cd-r demo called “On arrive“, a 17 songs Cd called “Face aux reflets“ which is available at Combat Rock rds. And some titles on “Dites le… 4 fois plus fort“ (Combat Rock rds) and “Lothringen Punk Rock Crew“ (Worsty rds).

Who are some of the bands you have done shows with?

With french bands : La Fraktion, Police on tv, The Informers, No Milk, Malaka, Ya Basta, Brigada Flores Magon, Torquemada, Traquenard. And with bands from Belgium (Vortex and Funeral Dress), Germany (Pest-Pocken and Eiltank), Hungary (P.F.A. and Plan Beer), Spain (Opcio k-95 and Desperta Ferro), Japan (Hat Trickers)… and i may forget some !

Have you toured?
We rarely play 2 dates in a row, it’s more and more difficult in our country.

Do you prefer small clubs or large venues?
To get an access to big audience, you need a tourbooker, and i don’t think that a band like us can interest them. We play mainly in small clubs (which are less and less many) and in small places, we played some gigs in unbelievable places too (squats, under a bridge, in garages, under a football ground…) !!

Is there a favorite band you like to do shows with?
We loved to play with local bands, it’s always a pleasure to see our mates on stage and to prepare gigs with them. I can tell you : Charge 69, Neophyte, Riot Gun, Komptoir Chaos, Exogene, Carbone 14, Block H95, Kid Chaos or my ex-bands Les Dérangés and Rassoudok…

Is there a favorite place you like to do shows at?
The “Festival Punk Rock Messin“ (Metz punk rock fest) in 2001. All our mates on stage in front of a 400/500 audience (which is very good for punk gig in France). The local cool places to drink, see or play a gig are the "Dock Club 412“ in Marange-silvange (near Metz), the “Rock ‘n’Bike“ in Boismont (a small village lost in a forest) and the “SoapBox“ in Nancy.

What do you see is the future of Non Konform?
We’ll keep on working, slowly, and when the time to end will come, there won’t be any regrets !
