The Pilfetus Project ***New Interview***

The Pilfetus Project are a great band out of Texas. They have played a some great shows and released a few great releases. I got Deze to tell their story...

Introduce yourself…
Deze Jones (Lead singer)

How did the band start?
We started in the late 90's writing music for cartoon shorts I was making... Called Dr. Eyeglass and the Hellified Freak Show.

How did you come up with the name?
The name came from a mis-print of the name of a painting I did for a show in Dallas/Fort Worth... "Pilfetus" when the painting was called "Pill-fetus"... The name of the painting changed and so began the legend.

Who would you say are your influences?
Major influences are GG Allin, Mike Patton, Rozz Williams, Tommy Prong...Local influences are the Hates, Poor Dumb Bastards, Fuckemos, Butthole Surfers...Jad Fair (all from Texas)

What was the Texas punk scene like in 2000?
Watch...When We Ruled H-Town!

How did you feel it has changed?
People still kickass here... Hardcore seen has died out though, wish the goth scene was like it was in the early 90's!

Describe the song writing process...
We have written thousands of songs... All of them melt balls off... We can't stop writing or I think we would die... It comes pretty easy for us... Time and my sanity seem to be the problem with our writing if we had one.

You have released '13', tell us about the album...
That was the 13 songs that where not on Dreams.

How do you feel 'In Bad Dreams We Trust' differed?
Dreams was more punk rock than 13... My gutter vampirate just started coming out more as we continued to record and "13" just came on out.

You have also released 'The Evil Black Sewing Machine', tell us about the release...
The Evil Black Sewing Machine was a record we did in response to "the Buisness" or Corporate America... It never stops no matter how old and ugly it gets... But it kills... It will never go away, most don't even care how evil it really is!... Or you could just say it's about a serial killer or Death... Like most of our songs.

What else have you released?
We are working on some new songs... There are covers I've seen floating out there but we didn't release those... Bootlegs of live house parties from the early days... Good luck finding those now.

Who are some of the bands you have done shows with?
We are stagehands as well as musicians... And have been for over 14 years... Bands have all run together... Not sure who we haven't worked with... Some are bigger dicks than others so we rather not say... They might remember us and hunt us down.

Do you prefer to do shows at large venues or small clubs?
Clubs like to fight if you're not feeling it... Not that venues don't throw shit too... We like old supermarkets and gas-stations turned into punk venues!

Where have you toured?
Just the Mid-West... Can't afford the bonds anywhere else.

Is there a favorite band you like to do shows with?
Babydick

Is there a favorite place you like to do shows at?
Late Nite Pie & Vick's

Do you see the future of the Pilfetus Project?
Of course our mother is a witch... Future of the world depends on the Pilfetus Project!

How can people contact the band?
...Through any of the web sites... Someone will get back to you... Some day.
