Pipes and Pints ***New Interview***

Pipes and Pints are a punk great band from Czech Republic. Small country, big sound, so figure. They have played a bunch of shows all around Europe and they were all great shows with some really awesomes bands. The band has a few recordings out including a full length album. I got the band to tell their story...

Introduce yourself…
Hello, i'm Ondrej, bassist from cz/usa band Pipes and Pints. We are punk rock band, living in a Czech republic, touring the Europe, looking forward to touring the World :)

How did the band start?
The band strats around year 2006, like dream of our bagpipe player Vojta Kalina, who was looking for some musicians, friends which wants to spend a lot of time with making a music, travelling the world, and dedicate their lives to a common think, which is a punk rock band.
After 2 years of playing 3 guys did not stand the tempo of the band, so they leave out. Only Vojta (bag pipes) and Tomas Novotny (guitar) wants to continue, so they ask Lukáš Vincour (drums), me Ondrej Balvin (bass) and Mike House (vocals). In this crew we did another 2 years of great touring. Mike is now leaving and we are doing a competition for new singer. Looks like we will be back on track soon.

How did you come up with the name?
I think Vojta has this name much earlier, than the band was created .) He really wants to have a punk rock band with a highland bagpipes, and he was practising a lot, so he needs something, what push him forward, so he created the name. And when you have a band name, you need a band :)

Who would you say are your influences are?
Each person in a band is a little bit different, so each other of us have a different influences, ideals and heroes. A lot of people call us folk-punk, but we really don't feel like that, we're just punk rock band with a strange instrument.

What is the punk scene like in the Czech Republic?
I think I could say: GREAT! We're not a big country, but at the same time it cause that we know each other really good, so we could better cooperate. Here is a lot of punx which wants to do something, to pushing the scene up and forward.

Describe the song writing process…
Absolute most of the songs are comming in this template: Tomas (the guitarist) bring some first chords and melodies, Vinca (drummer) starts play with him, then I (bassist) connect to them, after Vojta (bag pipes). Connect to us, after we play together, improvisate, after we little bit talk about arranges, sometimes the talk takes a time, sometimes not, and thats it, the song is finished. After the singer get mp3, take a walk with his dog, and create lirycs. It sounds simple, isn't it? :)

Your first release was a demo EP, tell us about the demo...
Vojta: It was our very first experience with recording. We helped our practice room landlord with some construction works and he recorded this demo for us. The sound is what you can expect from starting band. Retrospectively a necessary start  that brings good memories, not a good record 

How does the 5 track EP you released in 2008 differ?
It was really fast and D.I.Y. process, we record it in our practise room in one day. Just 5 songs to have something in our hands for a promoters, for a people, for a let everybody know about our band :)

In 2009, you released your first album 'Until We Die', tell us about the album...
For most of us it was a debut, so its the best what we could put up from us.

You have any plans for another release?
We really looking forward to recording a new album, because the new album will be released on I Hate People records (IHP)
We have a lot of songs finished, but we want to give only 10, or 11 songs. We're much experienced now and i belive we much better know what exactly we want.
The oter part is, that we'll record this album with a new singer, because Mike didn't stand a tempo of the band, he gives up, and he is comming back to U.S.A. Its a very pity for us, but we must go on and continue working.
So let surprised your self  ;)

Tell us about the current lineup...

Oh i think i can't remember all of them... If i doesn't count the festivals, where we share a stage with  really really many many very very big bands like Pennywise, Ignite, Anti-Flag, Street Dogs, Bouncing Souls...
It was a many bands like Born to Lose, Hudson Falcons, The Locos, Real McKenzies, Mad Sin, Stage Bottles, Casualties, Demented are Go, The  Toasters, Varukers, Total Chaos, and so so on...
