the Way ***New Interview***

the Way is a great punk band from Oxnard, CA. They have released a great album and have toured parts of California. They put on a great live show and have shared the stage with some great bands. I got the band to tell their story...

How did the band start?
The original members (Ryan, Tank, Harry) were part of another band back in '09 who lost their singer. Johnny Boy joined up as well as lead guitarist Manny and the rest id history!

How did you come up with the name?
The early Christian church were not originally called "Christians". They were known as followers of "The WAY". They believed, as do we, that Jesus Christ is the only Way, Truth, and Life!

Who would you say are your influences?
We have our personal influences, but as a whole we dig on bands like Social D, Bad Religion, Rise Against, Pennywise etc...

What is the punk scene like in Oxnard?
The punk scene seems to have died down in recent years here in Oxnard. The once thriving Nardcore scene is still around, but seems to be more interested in their bowling tournaments than punk shows. There are some backyard shows that happen once in a while but we don't really get involved because our message isn't really well received.

Describe the song writing process...
Johnny and Harry usually come up with the initial structure in the songs, Then when they are satisfied with what they got, it is introduced to the rest of the band where the finishing touches are added by everyone and a new song is born.

What have you released?
Our first release is a 12 track album called "The fight is Ours". We released it last year on Thumperpunk records. We are currently about to release our second project called "Helpless but not Hopeless". This will be a 7 song EP, also from Thumperpunk Records.

Who are some of the bands you have done shows with?
We have opened up for bands like Seventh Day Slumber, House of Heroes, The Rekoning, Tumbledown, and many many more great local bands.

Do you prefer to do shows at large venues or small clubs?
We primarily play small clubs and bars so when we get to play on the big stages we get way stoked!

Have you toured?
We have done some small weekend tours up and down California. We are hoping to make our way to the East to play the Cornerstone Festival next year.

Is there a favorite band you like to do shows with?
Two bands from our label called The Kings Kids and ABSOLVED. We have a great time with these guys!

Is there a favorite place you like to do shows at?
There is a local dive here called Sans Souci that we really have fun at. They are very helpful to the bands and even hook it up with pizza!

What do you see is the future of the Way?
We look foreword to releasing more music and hitting the road! We have a desire to get our live show to audiences farther and farther from home to build up a good fan base!

How can people contact the band?
I accidentally answered the last question with the answer that was meant for the second to the last question. As for how people can contact us they can do so here on or email us at
