Disgruntled Bastards are a fun punk band from Poplar Bluff, MO. I think they are an amazing testament to how far reaching the punk scene reallly is. They have a great live set and have so far shared the stage with only local bands, which is a very diverse set of bands from many genres. They have an awesome EP out and soon an LP to follow. I got Gregg to tell their story...
Introduce yourself…
We are Disgruntled Bastards!!! We are a punk/rock band from
Poplar Bluff, MO. We consist of 5 awesome musicians:
Gregg Pearson: lead vocals
Captain J: lead-guitarist/backup vocals
Becko: bass guitar
Bastard Jack: rhythm guitar
Kyle Daniels: Drums/backup vocals
Interview wrote by, Gregg Pearson, lead vocals.
How did the band start?
Disgruntled Bastards was formed in the summer of 2010 with the
goal of obtaining free alcohol. Captain J and I decided to form a band that
would give us the freedom to have fun and not have to follow the typical
norm.
How did you come up with the name?
One sunny day Captain J and I were drinking beer and playing
guitar, Captain J suggested, Disgruntled Bastards, as the official name for
our project and it stuck, proving to be a honest extension of our
personalities. We first recruited Bastard Jack to play drums and then
recruited Becko for bass guitar. Later, with Captain J's overseas
deployment, I asked Bastard Jack to set in as lead-guitarist. I then
recruited Kyle to play the drums for the band during Captain J's absence.
Kyle turned out to be a great asset and earned his permanent place in
Disgruntled Bastards. With Captain J's expected return in October 2012
the full line-up will be back and ready to party with all of our Bastards!!!
Who would you say are your influences?
Our influences would most likely be: Social Distortion, Misfits,
Murderdolls, Dropkick Murphys, Ramones, and Sex Pistols. I'm sure there
are many more, but these are the ones that come to mind.
What is the punk scene like in Poplar Bluff?
There really isn't a punk scene here in Poplar Bluff, MO., but there is
a great local music scene that we are glad to be a part of. We have a wide
variety of genre's including: Death Metal, Rap, Country, and Rock, but I
believe we are the only punk/rock band in the immediate area.
Describe the song writing process...
Our song writing process starts with an idea, sometimes serious,
sometimes comical, then we throw a tune to it and if it fits, it fits. Lol! The
songs we have now are the by-products of Captain J and I, but recently we
have been toying with some awesome ideas and riffs that Bastard Jack
has been writing.
What have you released?
We have so far released a demo E.P., Hell Is All I Know, then we
released an early preview of the, One Hell Of A Day, L.P. Right now our,
One Hell Of A Day, album is being sold in local stores and will soon be
available via I-Tunes and other internet distributors. We are also planning
on returning to Underline Studios, for our second album, as soon as
Captain J returns.
Who are some of the bands you have done shows with?
We have had the pleasure of sharing a stage with a lot of great local
bands in the area and are looking forward to our next show where
Breaking The Fall and Fates Undertaking will be playing with us. Both
bands are awesome at what they do and we feel they will be a great
addition to our next show.
Do you prefer to do shows at large venues or small clubs?
We love small venues, the crowds are awesome and our fans are
great. We are planning some larger venues later this year in Memphis,
Tennessee and St. Louis, Missouri. We feel that no matter how big or
small the venue might be, a Bastard crowd is still a Bastard crowd and that
makes it all worth it.
Have you toured?
We were planning a Southern Tour this year, but we have decided to
wait until Captain J returns. We feel that he should be here with us to
share in the opportunity, and help carry equipment. Lol!!!
Is there a favorite band you like to do shows with?
A favorite band that we enjoy playing with? There are just too many
to really point out. We would love to share the stage with Social Distortion
some day, that would be outstanding!!!
Is there a favorite place you like to do shows at?
We did have a favorite venue, Mainstreet Bar, here in Poplar Bluff,
Mo. They supported us when we first started and always welcomed us
when we played. The crowds were great and that's where our fan base,
commonly known as “the bastards” was first formed. Unfortunately, the
bar no longer exists, but we love all of the venues that put up with us. Lol!
Do you see is the future of Disgruntled Bastards?
No matter what happens in the future with us, we will always be
Disgruntled Bastards and continue having fun. Our hope is to someday
make it big, but I believe that is a dream for many bands. I guess as long
as we are happy and having fun doing what we love, we can't go wrong.
How can people contact the band?
Fans, booking agents, and others interested can contact us at:
www.disgruntledbastards.com or FaceBook, MySpace, Reverbnation,
SoundCloud, Twitter, and we have a couple of old videos on YouTube that
we shouldn't be judged by. Lmao!!!
