the Freakouts ***New Interview***
the Freakouts are an awesome punk band out of Houston. They are bring back the old-school! They have a awesome live set and actually have shared the stage with many amazing bands and have a great local following from many of the local bands. They have also an amazing demo out. I got the band to tell their story...
We're The Freakouts; Ash on vocals, Meg on Bass, Steven Jones & Porter on guitars, & Allen on drums
How did the band start?
Drugs, the big bang happened, then some other stuff happened, then The Freakouts happened. And everyone freaked out
How did you come up with the name?
It just was.
Who would you say are your influences?
Joan Jett, The Ramones, & general illness inspires us.
What is the punk scene like in Houston?
Like any other punk scene I guess? Lots of music & lots of beer. We like it.
Describe the song writing process...
We all kind of put our own pieces together, but it usually starts with Porter playing something on guitar and Ash jotting down some lyrics, they bring it to the band, & everyone puts in their own part and voila!
What have you released?
Just some live tracks on a rough demo, but we will be recording a 7" soon, and releasing an album shortly after. Send donations please. haha.
Who are some of the bands you have done shows with?
Skeleton Dick, The Queers, MODFAG, Mike Terror, Hell City Kings, and on February 17th we will be playing with The Sons Of Hercules at Rudyards.
Do you prefer to do shows at large venues or small clubs?
As long as the sound works and isn't electrocuting us, we'll play anywhere, but house parties are pretty fucking awesome.
Have you toured?
Nope, hoping to this summer.
Is there a favorite band you like to do shows with?
Nope, every band we play with brings something different to every show. Theres too much going on right now to pick a favorite, thats fuckin crazy.
Is there a favorite place you like to do shows at?
Rudyards, Fitz, and house parties.
What do you see is the future of the Freakouts?
A fucking shit load of fun! no but really we just wana keep playing. If it takes us somewhere, then AWESOME, but we're going to be alright as long as we are just able to do what we love.
How can people contact the band?
