Intentional Harassment ***New Interview***
Intentional Harassment is an awesome punk band from Oregon. They have a great live set and have shared the stage with some great bands from Oregon. They currently have an EP out and are working on an album. I got Pete to tell their story...
Introduce yourself…
I am Pistol Pete and we are Intentional Harassment from Salem, Oregon USA. Our frontman Serious Sam on guitar and vocals, Pistol Pete on the bass and back vocals, Krazy Fucking Kyle on the drums. We're just a bunch of crazies and thats about it.
How did the band start?
The band started last year in August of 2010 totally by random. It all started when I made a random, unannounced visit to my friend's house in Salem to hang out with him for just a little bit to see what's up and shit. My freind was not home, but my freind Joedozer that was living there at the time was home. He had a guitar player friend, Serious Sam, living there too and they were jamming out and singing when I got there. I knew Sam a little bit from around town, but not much. When they took a break from jamming, Sam let me play on his guitar. I was playing his guitar like really fast, punkrock style, and Sam was very intrigued with it. Sam needed a bass player and Joe told him I play bass. I was recruited immediately, and the rest is history for me. However, the original line-up was not complete until about 3 months later with the recruitment of our first drummer, Auzzy. Auzzy quit after 4 months in our band and was replaced by Krazy Fucking Kyle.
How did you come up with the name?
we just changed the name of our band to Intentional Harassment. Intentional harassment is a criminal charge somewhere in Great Britain that you can get for pissing people off, provoking them, telling them things they don't want to hear, etc. I guess that best describes most of our music.
Who would you say are your influences?
We play like fast hardcore thrash punk, so shit like that. Aus-Rotten, Gang Green, DS-13 would be my guess...so I guess we sound like D-beat and skater punk.
What is the punk scene like in Oregon?
The punk scene is huge in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. So many great bands around here including some old skool punkrock bands like Posion Idea, Resist, and MDC residing just right north of us in Portland, Oregon. I have personally met with Al and Dave Dictor from MDC on occasions. The Great Pacific Northwest is where you really want to be for punkrock.
The punk scene is big here in the western part of Oregon. Even the Bend-Redmond area in central Oregon has an emerging punk scene I hear. Portland has a good scene and to the south of us Eugene has lots of punkrock bands. Even the smaller cities like McMinnville, Corvallis, and Medford have their own local punk scenes and are home to several major Pacific Northwest punk bands.
As for our area, the punk scene here in the Salem area seems to be lagging behind most other areas in western Oregon. Salem is a very unusual city with a rampant criminal population and is also the Oregon state capitol, which is very ironic because this is supposed to be the center of state government oppression. It is funny because the state government is broke and that they cannot even keep it together here in the state capital.
It's not that we have don't have lots of punkrockers here in Salem. There are plenty of punkrockers here. It is that there are very few punk bands residing here in Salem. We are the only really fast hardcore thrash punk band in Salem (that I know of). I would say our punk scene in Salem is falling short due to the lack of punkrock bands here. We are definitely geared up to fill this void here. We are going to make Salem cool again with some good name punkrock, and hopefully bring some more momentum to things here in Salem.
Describe the song writing process...
I write some of the songs, but the guitarist writes most of the songs and he is a paranoid schizophrenic. So that might give an idea of some of our songs, but no really, he is a nice guy. Most of our songs are about violence, and drinking on the streets. We have a couple of anthem songs, with other songs that are against punk ass bitches (man or woman), cops, hard drug addicts, and corporate greed.
What have you released?
Nothing prior, but we got a free EP that we are going to release very soon if we haven't released it already. It will be available to listen to soon on our band website http://www.facebook.com/l/2AQE-WwJNAQHAInQLtJLnYtF-mv17gZlQVrYkA3q6fHQIxw/www.intentionalharassment.com/ when I am finished with construction of it. We also have a full length album in the works. No idea yet on when we will have the album done. And apparently, we had an early raw recording of one of our songs played on Stench Radio.
Who are some of the bands you have done shows with?
The most notable bands we have played shows with include Skatter Bomb from Salem, and Final Offense from McMinnville.
Do you prefer to do shows at large venues or small clubs?
I prefer the smaller venues because I'm up close and more personal with our audience.
Have you toured?
No we have not toured yet. Can only do a Pacific Northwest regional tour at this time because that is the furthest we can go with the vehicle that I have to borrow.
Is there a favorite band you like to do shows with?
For me, probably our fellow local bands would be my favorites to do show with because we all know each other and its cool like that.
Is there a favorite place you like to do shows at?
Basically, anywhere where the PA is nice and loud. We need a nice loud PA system for our music. I personally like any place that has cheap beer too for poor folks like me. I like to drink before I play.
What do you see is the future of Intentional Harassment?
We will be one amongst all the other punkrock legends!
