the Venomous Pinks ***New Interview***
the Venomous Pinks are three gals from Phoenix that don't take shit from anyone. They are a really great band, too. Don't listen to me I am just a blogger, watch them live, really, if you don't your bucket list will be in the crapper and this is a really long run-on sentence. They have a great list of bands they have shared the stage with. They have only released a demo, but they have toured. I got them to tell their story, without really long run-on sentences...
Julie: My name is Julie and I play the drums!
How did the band start?
Drea: Sue and I left a band we were in together to start a girl band in town and posted an ad on craigslist and the new times looking for a girl drummer.
Julie: I saw an ad posted in the New Times and responded. I went and jammed with Drea and Sue and that was that. It was meant to be.
How did you come up with the name?
Drea: It's a play on from the pink ladies or Grease, and just the ultimate bad girls club.
Julie: I didn't, that was all Sue and Drea.
Who would you say are your influences?
Drea: Mostly 80s punk bands like X and TSOL, or Old 50's/60's Rock n Roll, anything off Sun Records or The Animals.
Julie: Dave Grohl. He is an animal on the drums. I love him.
What is the punk scene like in Phoenix?
Julie: It is not what it used to be. It is a lot smaller now, but it is a very tight group of people.
Drea: It is a small scene, but it's also a family. You take care of each other and watch each others back.
Describe the song writing process...
Julie: for me it is very random and sporadic. There is no method to the madness, it just happens when it happens.
Drea: I like to sit down and just play and come up with different chords. I try to challenge myself and get away from the 3 chord punk recipe.
What have you released?
The Venomous Pinks are in the process of getting ready to record, so nothing yet officially. We have a demo out.
Who are some of the bands you have done shows with?
Casket Life, Bro Loaf, Labor Party, Tin Can, Witchburn, Antique Scream, The Whorchatas, Motortrain, The Jerk Officers, Sigma, Rotten Youth, lots of bands...we'll play with anyone.
Have you toured?
Do you prefer small clubs or large venues?
Large venues if they are packed.
Is there a favorite band you like to do shows with?
There was.... RIP The Whorchatas,
Is there a favorite place you like to do shows at?
The Yucca Tap Room in Tempe.
What do you see is the future of The Venomous Pinks?
Champagne Wishes, caviar dreams. In all honesty, playing shows, rocking out, traveling in a van, invading ear drums with our punky noise.
